Magento is an open-source eCommerce platform that provides online merchants with a flexible shopping cart system. For developers, it also offers tight control over the look, content, and functionality of the online stores they build. Magento (including the Enterprise Edition) is as complex as it is powerful, which means working with it requires specialized skill. Therefore, we are proud to announce that in early July, Priya Navani, one of our talented project managers, passed her exam to become a Magento Certified Solutions Specialist!

Already a talented project manager and liaison between clients and the design and development team, Priya’s study and certification further expand her capabilities. As a Magento Certified Solutions Specialist, she:

  • Can map and align client objectives with Magento functionality
  • Provides guidance for site architecture including layouts, themes, and extensions
  • Optimizes the use of native features like catalogs, shipping and payment options, order processing, promotions, extensions, data import/export, and more.
  • Avoids unnecessary customization

Mayank Agrawal, CTO and co-founder of DotcomWeavers said, “With Magento, theoretical knowledge is not enough. Successful eCommerce stores are the products of practical application and experience. Priya’s certification reinforces our capabilities as a total eCommerce solutions provider.”

Priya’s Magento Certified Solutions Specialist Adventure

Priya joined the DotcomWeavers team in early 2015 as a project manager. Though she was well-versed in many aspects of the eCommerce development industry, she also knew there was still more to learn. This led her to embark on the Magento Certified Solutions Specialist exam. The exam is the culmination of a rigorous course of self-directed study. This makes the course especially difficult because the student must combine study with real experience, which can only come from working with the platform.

The course is 90 minutes long and includes 66 questions. All questions are valid for Magento Community Edition (1.8 & 1.9) and Magento Enterprise Edition (1.13 & 1.14). During the course, the student must be able to adapt to real-time situations – the same as if working on a client project.

“I failed the first time,” said Priya, “which actually proved beneficial. It also gave me a deeper understanding of the platform’s nuances and possibilities, and helped me acquire a true practical knowledge of the platform. Now I feel ready for the next challenge.”

DotcomWeavers and Magento

One of the powerful benefits of having a project manager like Priya on the team who is also a Magento Certified Solutions Specialist, is her ability to provide unparalleled support to clients whose projects are on the Magento Platform. Not only can she direct more accurate project scoping during the initial phase of a project, but she can also translate expectations, capabilities, and limitations between the client and the design and development team.

“We have already seen improvements in client service,” said Amit Bhaiya, CEO and co-founder of DotcomWeavers. “Priya’s certification adds immense value to the team and validates what we are doing. She was diligent and exacting in her preparation, and our clients are seeing the benefits.”

Priya’s experience and training with the Magento Enterprise Edition (MEE) are especially important as DotcomWeavers tackles larger and more complicated client projects. As a result of her knowledge of MEE, Priya will help guide our team to explore and leverage its powerful merchandising capabilities. These include cutting edge site search and the ability to segment customers and target them with personalized content.

What’s Next for Priya and DotcomWeavers?

After her rigorous Magento Certified Solutions Specialist exam, you would think that she would want a (well-deserved) break. But Priya has other plans.

“In the coming weeks, I will continue my Magento development by starting the Magento 2.0 certification course,” said Priya. “After that, it’s going to be Google Analytics.”

That’s quite a course load, but we know she’ll do well! At DotcomWeavers we foster an environment of professional and personal growth. All team members are encouraged to take courses and explore their professional interests. Furthermore, we can’t wait to share more about Priya’s professional development, as well as that of our other team members.
